About the image:
This image is part of a series called The Boxing Boys. The photos were taken during the Amateur Boxing Association try-outs in Thame, Oxfordshire. The kids (all boys) start out young - as young as five - and are bound in a close-knit community. There is a huge pressure to succeed, but within the ring this macho passion contrasts with the boys’ youth and vulnerability.
It was this contrast, that I set out to capture in my photographs: the juxtaposition between the boys' youthfullness and the surroundings of the boxing ring and all it represents.
